Brendle(diamond)s (Closed since 1996? Roanoke Rapids, NC)

Gary and I went to Roanoke Rapids last June and we went to a Big Lots next to this building, and had a freakout over it. We see now that it has been painted burgundy and the Brendles sign has finally been taken down.

NEI Cinemas (Hampton, VA closed mid 1990’s)

Filed under: dead stores — Anita @ 7:53 pm

Wow, I’ve totally been forgetting to post this.

NEI Cinemas (Hampton, VA closed mid 1990's)

I took this way back in March of 2003. I’ve forgotten how many times mom took me to this place growing up. I think this place shut down in the mid 1990’s.

Is this a theater again? This is in the (now bordering on dilapidated) Riverdale Shopping Center in Hampton, VA.

Here is the Cinema Treasures page on the mall, also with a cool picture of the mall from the 70’s. I think that old sign was still on the theater when I was a little kid in the early 1990’s.

Hampton J.C. Penney to close for relocation

Filed under: "coliseum mall",dead stores,J.C. Penney — Anita @ 8:56 pm

{original article}

The J.C. Penney store in Hampton is scheduled to be closed from July 21 to Aug. 3 as it changes location. The department store, part of the now-closed Coliseum Mall, will remain on the same plot of land but move closer to the intersection of Coliseum Drive and Cunningham Drive. The move is part of the development of that property into the Peninsula Town Center. The department store’s grand opening is planned for Aug. 3 at the new location.
