The Virginia Film Office

Filed under: dead stores, other malls — Anita @ 5:57 am

Oh boy, I found another website that’s going to keep me up all hours now. The Virginia Film Office. I’ve found some malls and stores so far.

Macarthur Mall, Norfolk VA. Opened in 1999

Tyson’s Corner Mall

Fair Oaks Mall

Pentagon Mall

Walnut Mall — we’ve been getting some submissions for this place over at deadmalls.com.

Greenbriar Mall – these photos look the oldest out of the bunch.

Tanglewood Mall – we’ve gotten a lot of hate mail about this joint over at deadmalls.com.Conflicting reports on it whether its still dead or not. These photos look pretty old.

  1. The problem with the Virginia Film Office website is that it’s out of date. Walnut Mall doesn’t exist anymore. Chippenam North Shopping Center is shown, but what’s shown has been torn down and redeveloped.

  2. Yeah, Walnut Mall is gone.

FWIW, here there’s a pic from Oct 2006 of the red clay lot where the mall once was:

Selfishly, I’m glad the Va. Film Office is behind the times. Viewing those pics is the closest I’ve come to seeing that mall since I was a kid. The old Peoples’ Drug signage alone is way cool.

Also, last fall at least, aerial photos at Mapquest were old enough to still have Walnut Mall in them.

Will have to check out the other malls. Thanks again.

  3. My favorite part of the Walnut Mall pictures is the weight bench and barbells set up on the “stage” in the middle of the closed mall??!!??

    • Hey,

I believe the site has been dead for a long time. Sorry. I tried to grab what I could.
