I saw a promo for this during The Office last night, but I forgot to record it.
I’ve never been to any of the malls mentioned in the story (also includes video).

So a friend and I visited the Staunton Mall, a few minutes from Mary Baldwin College. We walked in it expecting that it would be dead, but its actually somewhat full, mostly mom and pop stuff, but its full, so I can’t really call it a dead mall. More like a small mall.
Here are some pics I took with my iPhone:
This store was awesome. It was stuck in about 1982.
Steve & Barrys is closing down shop. There was a lot of t-shirts left.

There were a LOT of vending machines here since there are only three tenants in the food court.
Old style Bath & Body Works. I love this design.

The Books a Million moved away about a week after I posted this.

I have a Category for Staunton Mall now.
A video from let’s say five, six year ago when Staunton Mall went by the moniker of Colonial Mall
I meant to take this last year when I made a trip to Lynnhaven with my friend, but didn’t get a chance. What a sad looking store. I think this Lord & Taylor closed in 2005. *checks Wikipedia*
Virginia – Virginia Beach – Lynnhaven Mall – 120,000 sq ft. (opened 1999, closed 2005)
This is the only vacant anchor of Lynnhaven Mall, the rest of the mall is doing great. One of the entrances is very 80’s though:
This Kid got the Lakehurst Mall Seagull. FOR FREE.
If anyone here acquired some Coliseum Mall stuff during the auction please let me know. Or if anyone here can hook me up with something from Coliseum.
{The original Tower Mall entry}
Mike Hepp over at the Penn Can Mall fansite sent me this listing this evening:
I’ve been meaning to post these for a good long time. I have a beat up newspaper from March 11, 1999 when MacArthur Center opened up. Here are some highlights from it:
{these are in crappy condition, I know}

{Walnut Mall [torn down], Petersburg, VA}
…. what is UP with the weights in center court?! Did the security guard who was looking over the abandoned place at night decide to do exercise?

{Greenbriar Mall, Chesapeake VA, when you look at the photos note that there is a store called “mothers” and another store called “father and son shoes” This mall had some major parental issues…}
I fixed the links on this entry of mall photos from the Virginia Film Office.
Also, Miller & Rhoads (empty Richmond, VA location…I assume this was the flagship store)
Smith & Welton department store (Norfolk, VA location…I assume this was a downtown location?)
It’s hard to believe that department stores were so massive back then.
I remember driving by this dump a lot … Kings Flea Market.
One more! Check out the old Wal Mart in these photos.

More Walnut Mall pictures (from the same website — I’m just afraid that pictures will be deleted one day) under the cut:
Recently, I was talking to someone who works at my community college, and since he knew I was a huge mall buff, he asked if I had any info on Tower Mall (was Tower Mall in Va. Beach or Norfolk?), and I told him that I didn’t and we have never received a submission on deadmalls.com about it.
So, does anybody here have any info? I’ve posted the same notice as a MySpace bulletin as well.

Good photo set about the Amsterdam Mall in New York..
Oh boy, I found another website that’s going to keep me up all hours now. The Virginia Film Office. I’ve found some malls and stores so far.
Macarthur Mall, Norfolk VA. Opened in 1999
Walnut Mall — we’ve been getting some submissions for this place over at deadmalls.com.
Greenbriar Mall - these photos look the oldest out of the bunch.
Tanglewood Mall - we’ve gotten a lot of hate mail about this joint over at deadmalls.com.Conflicting reports on it whether its still dead or not. These photos look pretty old.
I don’t know if this link will work, but here are all of them.
